Milk
The story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to high office in the United States of America. Eleven months into his first term, he was assassinated. There is an equally great documentary that you can watch in full here at Hulu and I strongly suggest that you do. But also take the time to at least rent the film version directed by Gus Van Sant and staring Sean Penn. I can think of no more haunting scene in any movie I have ever seen than the one in which Milk is so tragically killed.
